SCIOPTA ARM Safety Real-Time Kernel Certified to IEC 61508 SIL3
The SCIOPTA ARM IEC 61508-P3 Safety Kernel has been certified by TÜV Munich to the IEC 61508 standard at Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL3). The safety kernel is available for all ARM®7/9 and XScale based Microprocessors.

SCIOPTA ARM IEC 61508-P3 has been developed according to risk level SIL3 (IEC 61508-3) and SIL3/4 (EN 50128) and TÜV has tested the product according to IEC 61508-1:1998, IEC 61508-3:1998, IEC 61508-4:1998 and EN 50128:2001.

Version 1.9.5 of the SCIOPTA ARM IEC 61508-P3 Safety Kernel is certified. Customer with a valid maintenance agreement will receive certified version updates and upgrades at no additional costs. The SCIOPTA ARM IEC 61508-P3 Safety Kernel supports the ARM MMU memory protection and it has been certified to be used with the IAR Systems ARM C Compiler, Assembler and Linker.

The major advantage of using the SCIOPTA ARM IEC 61508-P3 Safety Kernel is the reduction of risk, cost, and time to market. Doing so eliminates the risk that the operating system component is not able to be certified without changes that may be outside of control by the user. It gets rid of the cost and time involved in certifying the operating system portion of the design. It eliminates the cost and time involved in creating additional measures in the application code to avoid potential faults in the operating system. And, it rules out the need to gather proven in use data on the operating system.

IEC61508 is an international standard focusing on safety-related systems that incorporate electrical, electronic and/or programmable electronic (E/E/PE) instruments and devices. Initially, mainly used in the automation and process control industry, IEC61508 is more and more accepted for applications in other industries including automotive and medical where safety and reliability are paramount.

SCIOPTA safety documentation includes the Safety Manual, the TÜV Certificate and the TÜV Certification Report. Other specific certification documents such as specifications, reports and plans are available upon request.
